Introducing DermFx Pro™

Professional Peels The Dermal HEalth Alliance.jpg

Professional peels are a group of active acids, enzymes and extracts used to chemically exfoliate the skin. These are widely used to improve skin texture, tone, collagen induction, pigmentation normalisation and reduction, improve acne and reduce pore size and oil flow (Brodie et al., 2000).

Peels can be used for superficial skin disorders and also for deeper concerns and this will determine the type of peel and the depth of penetration needed. This categorises peels into Light Superficial, Superficial, Medium and Deep Peels.

Professional peels are applied to a clean skin and layered until the desired “end point” or tissue interaction is achieved. Then the peel is removed or neutralised and home care is applied.

The Dermal Health Alliance uses an exclusive & unique range of specially formulated, professional peels - DermFx Pro™. Our peeling protocols have been redesigned for our proprietary DermFx Pro™ blends of free acids & can be included into customised treatment programs or as a stand-alone therapy.

DermFx Pro™ peels are results-driven to deliver rapid restoration and recovery.

With all Professional Peeling systems, patch testing for suitability is important & this is done during your Skin Health Assessment. When a program of peeling is decided on, prepping the skin is mandatory to ensure successful outcomes and minimise adverse reactions or downtime that can be associated with the stronger formulations. The Dermal Health Alliance uses a combination of cosmeceutical home care and professional treatments for prepping the skin for chemo-exfoliation, & the correct regimen is discussed during your consultation.

There are several different types of Professional Peels

DermFx Pro™ Resurfacing Peels include:

  1. Enzymatic resurfacing - gentle but effective for sensitive, reactive skins. Incorporated in most skin treatments as the pre-exfoliating step.

  2. Glycolic acid 50% - pH 1.15

  3. Lactic acid 50% - pH 1.48

  4. Mandelic acid 40% - pH 1.34

  5. TCA 25% - pH 0.8 (trichloroacetic acid)

  6. TCA 35% - 0.9

  7. Pyruvic acid 50% - pH 0.63

Proprietary blends:

  1. Reverse HA pH 0.8 - for hands & arms (TCA + Lactic acid + Kojic acid)

  2. Renew EL pH 0.86 - eye & lip area (TCA + Lactic acid)

  3. Restore ND pH 1.23 - neck & decolletage area (Pyruvic acid + Lactic acid + Acetylglucosamine)

  4. Rebalance AR pH 0.8 - oily/acne & rosacea (Salicylic acid + Mandelic acid)

**These advanced, peeling systems have specific indications & contra-indications for treatment & will be determined at your initial consultation.

All peels are finished with a soothing gel mask or post-care balm for protection, hydration and cooling the skin post-treatment.

A post-peel home care regime will also be discussed at the time of consultation as this is an important part of ensuring treatment success.

The skin conditions that can be improved with peels are:

  • photoaging, chronic sun damage & hyperkeratosis

  • acne vulgaris, rosacea, seborrhoea (excessive oily skin), seborrheic dermatitis,

  • keratosis pilaris, xerosis,

  • dyschromia, hyperpigmentation, melasma, Poikiloderma of Civatte

  • premature aging and skin laxity (Fulton & Porumb, 2004).

  • scar tissue, dehydration & devitalised skins

Research provides strong evidence of the results from peeling and also information about the risks, adverse effects and healing rates of the individual peeling ingredients. Complications can occur with any agent or peel formulation such as pigmentation disorders, infections, scarring and delayed healing (Landau, 2008).

Therefore, results are individualised & variable. Adherence to pre & post care is absolutely necessary to optimise healing & minimise complications.
